The WELL
-
At Greenfield Middle School, we have a fantastic resource called "The WELL!"
1. What is the WELL?
- The WELL is a counseling space (in addition to our Counseling Center and our four school counselors).
- The WELL is run by our two guidance techs, Paula Saavedra and Heidi Ortiz.
- Any student is able to use the WELL during the school day!
2. What is the WELL's purpose?
- Our mission is to create a tranquil space where students can develop self-regulation skills, aiding their transition back to the classroom.
- With the support of our dedicated staff, students will have the chance to reset and decompress.
- Through these skills, we promote emotional intelligence, sharpen focus, and deepen self-awareness, all of which contribute to the holistic development of each child's social, emotional, and academic growth.
3. What are the goals of the WELL?
- Improve Self-Regulation
- Enhance Focus and Productivity
- Promote Mindfulness
- Encourage individualized social emotional learning
4. What happens in the WELL?
- Mindfulness - Breathing exercises, relaxation activities, stretching
- Opposite Action - Doing the opposite of our impulse; focusing on positivity
- Distraction - Puzzles, books, artwork, music, crafts
- Emotional Awareness - Journaling, drawing, talking to an adult, listing emotions
- One of our two guidance techs, Paula Saavedra and Heidi Ortiz, monitor and run the WELL
- Students usually visit for 10-15 minutes
5. How does my student access the WELL?
- Every teacher has a WELL Pass in their classroom
- Students may request the WELL Pass from their teacher and obtain a break in the WELL by walking to the WELL with the pass
- Alternately, a student can request to visit the WELL by asking their school counselor or a counseling team member
- A staff member may also recommend a student visit the WELL
- Some students who benefit from the WELL on a regular basis may have scheduled WELL visits
- These scheduled WELL visits are only done with a guardian's consent
